I did a double take when I saw Newsweek's feature on Facebook and Facebook's impact on real estate. The article portray's Facebook as the potential salvation of the real estate industry. Perhaps a bit exaggerated, however, here's a quote from the Newsweek article:
"...And Tracy Wortmann, a high-school classmate with whom I reconnected last fall, had a different piece of news to share: "Tracy has 5 new listings, let me know if anyone is looking … Now is the time to buy!!!" Wortmann, as you may have guessed, is a Realtor. And even in the worst real-estate market in decades, she's recently learned how to drum up business using Facebook..."
Those of us on Facebook will agree on it's power to network our business with our community. I thought the article an excellent find so I thought to pass it on!

I am the Realtor® that makes things move in The Lane Real Estate Team, while my husband Joe is the dude that provides the marketing that gives me the great clients I have. My sole purpose in life is to serve God, family, and clients. Joe's sole purpose in life is to serve God, me, and family (and ski). We have five children, all at home, all ours. We've been happily married for 23 years, and Joe has forgotten the anniversary almost all of those years! We service the Tri Cities Washington real estate market to include Kennewick, Richland, and Pasco, Washington. Oh, our Pasco Wa Riverfront Home is for sale!

Colleen and Joe,
How cool is that. Facebook can be a fun place to connect.
Thanks for the info,
Ann Hayden in lovely Wildwood, Missouri
I included Facebook in my plan for 2009. In less than a week, it generated three leads so I will continue to plug away at it. I also use LinkedIn and Plaxo which have generated some leads - especially out of town referrals. Still reviewing - but so far so good.
WooHoo...all those hours on a keyboard are paying off for her!

You'll have to share your secret on how you managed to have him get his priorities straight! lol
Colleen and Joe -
If you use Facebook as a business tool - it can truly be a strong one!
But it also helped me find some old HS friends I haven't seen since the 70's! My parents could never have done that without Facebook.
It could be cool - but also useful. And, Social Networking is the wave of the future - so we all better embrace it!

AR has garnered me over 40 clients. I Tweet, link, plax it but face it: I have no clients to show for those efforts. AR is my nr.1 by far!
@Everyone, thank for the visit! :o)
@Mirela, The tweeting, facebooking, etc., doesn't do any good until the relationship goes offline. For instance, tomorrow night at 7 we are going to a tweetup. You know how it is, the relationships part of life lead to business, even when business is never discussed. Here is a good AR featured blog on taking things offline.
Lol to Pat who says "All those hours at the keyboard has PAID off!! LOL!! So funny... lol !
Thanks for this informative blog!

I am addicted to Facebook!!! I have already gotten one Buyer out of it!
I'm addicted too Tammy. In fact, Twitter too! ;)
I have not had much success with Facebook, but I have had a very good amount of success with LinkedIN.
Does anyone have good recommendations for initiating business talk on Facebook with people you may not have spoken to in 10 years?
Thank you
Ryan
I have actually re-connected with three old friends on Facebook that are ready to sell their home (and buy new ones!) this Spring. I am a huge Facebook fan.
I've connected with a ton of friends on facebook and am just now starting to realize the power it holds!
Colleen,
NAR's 2008 Survey of buyers stated a very interesting statistic, almost 50% of the online shoppers have social networking accounts and use them daily. Second most important part about Facebook is that it's primary demographic is almost exactly the same as the age demographic of the average home buyer. Plus, Facebook also has a classified section. Cool stuff.
I am having great success with Facebook both networking iwth other agents for referrals, and for people moving here.
You may want to start a group and start writing articles in there.
I have to agree, my facebook profile, but especially my fan page has created several leads for me that I never would have had without it. I am new, as in 4 days, to AR, so too soon to tell on this, but from everything I hear, it will be worth it!
